Volunteer Committees

WGNA Board Committees and Suggested Activities

We have provided an outline of suggested committees in the below; whereas, once you make your review and choices, you can then request a manual Volunteer Form, or see the general online form and comment remittance here on the website for volunteers.

  • History Committee: research local history; WGNA history book; historic bicycle and walking tours, partnership with California Pioneers of Santa Clara County, and PAC-SJ.

  • Planning and Land Use Committee: planning and land use; and the proposed development.  Examples: Evans Lane; Willow Street Park Improvements; Del Monte Park Soccer Fields.

  • Public Safety and Transportation: road diet improvements; California High Speed Rail; traffic calming; fire prevention; San Jose Fire Stations 6, 30, 33 and 37; police; emergency medical services (EMS); emergency services response times (fire, police, EMS, etc); San Jose Airport; bike routes and safety; public trails; emergency preparedness and disaster response.

  • Communications Committee: Member Newsletter; WGNA.net website; Facebook; and events promotion with other WGNA Committees.

  • Education Committee: School safety pedestrian crosswalks; crossing guards; Safe Routes To School  (Sponsorship).

  • Events Committee: art; candidate forums; public policy forums; Willow Glen Founders Day Parade; partnerships with WGBA and History Committee; tree Planting partner Our City Forest; Los Gatos Creek partner with Friends of Los Gatos Creek; Blight to Bright neighborhood cleanups; graffiti removal. 

If you are interested in being a volunteer in WGNA Committees (up to two), please contact the Board of Directors xwith your following information to be forwarded to the WGNA Board:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Postal address
  • WGNA membership status
  • Committees that interest you 
  • A brief  explanation of your interest, including any experience, education, or training appropriate for each committee

California Non-profit 501(C)4 organizations require that one or more WGNA Board members be on each committee since the WGNA Board has supervision and responsibility of all committees. 

WGNA Board will appoint all Chair and Vice Chairs from either the Board, Membership, or Community, which is based on the following:

  • Volunteer time commitment
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and motivate volunteers
  • Demonstrated knowledge of committee topics
  • Ability to achieve positive results 
  • Ability to positively follow WGNA Bylaws & Policies (for example, Article II - Purpose, Values Non-Discrimination, and Policies)
